THE HONEST BROKER: COVID-19: FINALLY SEEING THE RAINBOW
According to the state of Florida covid website, we have seen Florida’s new case, hospitalizations and deaths decrease significantly as the population has been vaccinated. Currently, the 2-week new case positivity rate is between 5-6.5% (https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/). This is an important value because the virus is said to be “under control” if the new case positivity rate is at, or below 5%. Florida is gradually approaching this benchmark. Also, the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html) has put out new numbers for the week of March 12, 2021 that shows that there is a decline in; new nursing home cases by 82% from peak, new overall cases by 75% from peak, current hospitalization rate decline of 70% from the peak, and death rate decline of 43% from peak.
These statistics demonstrate that we are beginning to see the end to the Covid-19 pandemic and that our social and family lives, as well as our businesses will begin to resume to normalcy.
Martin and St. Lucie Counties maintained a lower percentage rate for cases, hospitalizations, and deaths than our neighbors to the south (Dade, Broward, Palm Beach Counties), but followed all the same statewide CDC guidelines that were ordered by our Governor. Our community wore masks, closed indoor dining followed business restrictions; adhered to the hand washing and use of hand sanitizers, etc.
All these precautions played a large part in controlling the virus caseload and keeping the numbers down. Unfortunately, some of our businesses could not survive the hit on their revenue and their ability to maintain their lively hoods. The decline of covid is great for our business community but more importantly for our older generation who will begin to feel comfortable leaving the safety of their homes to go to the market or seeing their grandchildren and extended family without fearing the “outside”. For those that were able to hang on by their fingertips, the storm clouds are lifting, and they are seeing the rainbow in the distance.
Stay well and stay healthy….
