Hatchling saved at IRC Sea turtle nesting dig.
The Indian River County Sea Turtle Program led a sea turtle nesting dig Saturday, July 8, 2017, It happened on the Sexton Plaza Beach in Vero Beach. More then 90% of the turtles hatched three days before the dig.
The purpose of of such digs is to make sure there are no hatchlings stuck in the nest, record data relating to the nest, and to educate the public on sea turtles
The first Turtle Dig was a huge success and they were able to save 1 lone hatchling. 112 people showed up to learn more about sea turtles.
