On Sunday, September 14th, 2014, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired in the 2900 block of 45th Street in Gifford. Deputy Robert Sunkel located Cornelius Gore (30) of Fort Pierce with multiple gunshot wounds laying near a local barber shop. Deputies Sunkel and Evans performed CPR until Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived and transported Gore to Indian River Medical Center where he later died as a result of his gunshot wounds. Detective Chris Cassinari continued to work this case, ultimately developing a suspect and evidence that was presented before a grand jury last week.
Roman White (26) of Fort Pierce was charged with first degree murder with a firearm by the grand jury. White was identified by witnesses as the shooter in this case. Later, White was arrested in St. Lucie County in possession of a firearm. That firearm was tested and found to be the same weapon used in the murder of Gore in Gifford.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “The wheels of justice take time, but with outstanding witness cooperation we were able to obtain an indictment in this case. We are proud of our detectives and the work they have done to solve Mr. Gore’s murder.”
