Gomez Preserve Nature Trail is a 61-acre preserve that connects directly to the East Coast Greenway, passing through Seabranch Preserve State Park. The preserve is 4.5 miles south of the St. Lucie Inlet along the Indian River Lagoon. The county purchased the property in 1992 for its cultural history and natural resources. It was once the site of a Bahamian settlement from the early 1900s. The area is now home to diverse wildlife, including raccoons, bobcats, gopher tortoises, ospreys, and songbirds.
The preserve features a six-foot-wide shellrock fitness trail with exercise stations and a covered bench. A chickee with picnic tables also provides a shaded rest area. Future improvements include an educational kiosk with signage about the historical Bahamian settlement.
There is no on-site parking. However, visitors can park at Peck Lake Park to the south or Seabranch Preserve State Park to the north and access the trail by hiking or biking.
