A FUGITIVE SUSPECTED OF A 1978 MURDER IN CHICAGO HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN MARTIN COUNTY.

Lawmen took 57 year old Alvaro Flores into custody in Stuart Tuesday.

Flores, who lives on Clayton Street in Golden Gate, was wanted in connection with the 1978 murder of his girlfriend, 26-year old Maria Verela. Verela was stabbed to death in a Chicago apartment.

Flores has been living in Martin County with his wife and three children under the name of Aiden Garcia.

In 2000, a fingerprint check for a gun permit submitted by Flores under the name Aiden Garcia, alerted the FBI to Flores’s Stuart location. He was arrested, but released a short time later.

Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives were recently contacted again by Chicago authorities, who traveled back to Florida to assist the Sheriff’s Office in making the arrest.
