Fort Pierce Detectives Arrest Shooting Suspect
Fort Pierce Police Criminal Investigations Unit, Criminal Suppression Unit, SWAT and the
United States Marshal Service arrested Ronnie Jerome Buckins, 35, without incident at his home this morning
after serving a warrant for his arrest in connection with the shooting of Latarus D. Lewis, 33, of Fort Pierce.
Buckins is charged with attempted first degree murder and is being held on no bond.
The shooting occurred on August 31, 2015 at approximately 11:37 P.M. Lewis was visiting Buckins and
other family members who live at 2209 Avenue D. Lewis began arguing with an unknown male, who
was also at the residence. When the argument began to escalate, Buckins asked Lewis to leave the
property. As Lewis walked away he was still arguing with the unknown male when Buckins and a
sibling attacked him. Buckins went into the residence, exited with a gun, and fired at Lewis striking him
in the leg. Lewis was transported to a local hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injury.
