Florida’s population keeps growing but Census figures show it’s also getting more diverse.
Of the nearly 300-thousand residents added last year, about half were Hispanic.
Census data also shows that Florida has the highest percentage of its population over age 65. While 19-point-one-percent of the state’s population is over 65, the number climbs to almost 53-percent in Sumter County, the home of The Villages retirement community in west Central Florida. Sumter is the only county in the nation were a majority of the population is over 65.
