First Medical Marijuana Dispensary opens in Vero Beach
Vero Beach, Fl- The Treasure Coast’s first medical marijuana treatment dispensary opened Thursday morning.
Long lines formed as Trulieve opened its doors in Vero Beach.
It might be the city’s only dispensary because the city banned dispensaries last year after approving Trulieve.
Medical marijuana was approved by voters in 2016, but it’s taken a while for dispensaries to open up. That could be changing. Another dispensary, this one in Port St Lucie, is scheduled to open in a matter of weeks.
Last November, the CIty of Vero voted unanimously to ban dispensaries with the exception of the one approved. They allow in industrial zones, with approval on a case by case basis.
Last year, the legislature gave cities and counties only two choices for medical marijuana; treat them as pharmacies or ban them.
Last August, Indian River County banned dispensaries. Sebastian City Council passed an ordinance allowing them.
Florida Voters, overwhelmingly approved legalizing medical marijuana.
