First Data Field will get 20 million.

St Lucie County is set to receive $20 million from the state to help pay for renovations at First Data Field.

The county commission formally accepted the money yesterday morning.

Work should soon begin, as the New York Mets played their final spring training game there yesterday. They’ll have an intra-squad game against their Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51’s, on Thursday.

The St Lucie Mets begin their regular season games next week.

The construction will be scheduled to allow spring training and the minor league season to continue as normal. Renovations will include a players academy, a 50-room dormitory, and a wraparound concourse around the outfield.

The renovations are part of a deal that will keep the Mets in Port St Lucie through a players academy, a 50-room dormitory, and a wraparound concourse around the outfield.

The renovations are part of a deal that will keep the Mets in Port St Lucie through 2042.
