Early reports indicate that the motorist, who was traveling northbound on North Sewalls Point Road at a high rate of speed, crossed into the southbound lane and crashed into Deputy Dawn Ferris’s patrol car. The motorist then tried to leave the scene. Deputy Ferris attempted to jump the curb to avoid a head on collision, but was unable to completely get out of the path of the oncoming car.

Deputy Ferris and the motorist were taken to the hospital. Deputy Ferris was transported for observation and is expected to be released shortly. The motorist has non-life threatening injuries.  North Sewalls Point Road was completely shut down.
