Credit Card Skimmers Found at Fort Pierce Gas Station
Police are investigating the discovery of credit card skimming devices installed on two pumps at the Shell Gas Station, located at 1998 N US Highway 1. The credit card skimmers were located inside pumps 2 and 4.
Customers began complaining two days ago about fraudulent charges appearing on their credit cards. At approximately 3:00 p.m. Friday, the credit card skimming devices were found attached to the pumps. Police estimate that the card skimmers could have been placed inside the pumps approximately 30 days ago.
Police are urging anyone that purchased gas at the Shell Gas Station to begin monitoring their accounts for suspicious activity. If there appears to be any fraudulent activities in their accounts, please contact the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-467-6800.
Consumers can protect themselves by using cash to pay for gas, or going inside to the clerk to have the card swiped at the register. Also, consider using pumps that are closet to the register in plain view of employees. Those are presumable the least likely to be tampered with.
