City Experiments With Making Public Records More Public
The city is taking a page from the Federal government and experimenting with making public record requests available to everyone.
In July, the Obama Administration announced it will begin to post online for public access documents turned over as part of public record requests (They call them FOIA requests).
The idea seemed to fit with the city’s #transparency efforts so the decision was made to give it a limited try.
Because of the public interest in the recent stories involving the city’s surveillance camera system, it provided a good opportunity to try the new idea on a limited basis.
All requested public records having to do with the city’s camera system and the IT department are being posted on the city’s home page.
No promises that this will become permanent policy at this point. The city is just trying it out.
