A parent informed leaders at Storybrooke Preschool Academy about the diagnosis.

The school then sent a letter home to parents alerting them of the situation and the symptoms to look for.

Mumps is an acute viral disease characterized by fever, swelling and tenderness or pain in the area of the neck., loss of appetite, vague feeling of weakness, headache, fever, an earache aggravated by chewing, swelling in the parotid gland and pain when chewing or drinking sour or acidic liquids.

The incubation period for mumps is about 18 days.

Most people with mumps recover completely after several weeks.

The school is recommending parents take their children to their doctor if they show any symptoms.
