The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has found bombs, rockets and warheads in the ocean off the Treasure Coast.
The munitions include two 500-pound general purpose bombs, four warheads, and two rockets.
They were discovered 100 feet offshore in 15 feet of water during a project to remove offshore items associated with past military activities at the former Fort Pierce Naval Amphibious Training Base.
Crews will hoist and take the munitions to one mile out at sea to an area set aside for underwater detonations.
As a result of the munitions transport, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has been asked to keep residents and visitors away from the area between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
