Beware of this phone scam!
On Saturday, May 30, Stuart Police were told by several residents they received phone calls from a Lieutenant from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller stated that the resident had a warrant for their arrest for failure to appear for a Grand Jury summons. The caller stated that they must pay immediately with a prepaid gift card if they wanted to avoid arrest.
During one of the calls, $5500.00 was required to void the warrant.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office does NOT call people demanding money to avoid arrest for warrants.
