Beware of Fraudulent Austin and Perry Fundraisers
As the search and rescue continues through volunteers with DEEMI, the families of Austin and Perry are warning the public to beware of fraudulent fundraisers and accounts preying on their generosity.
It was a heart-breaking decision for the families to end the search and in the wake of calling off the search, a family friend warns of multiple cases of fake fundraisers, Facebook profiles and GoFundMe accounts.
It is important for the public to do their due diligence before donating to funding platforms.
“GoFundMe does not require their users to provide an update or any information for where the money goes so the public has no way of knowing if the funds are being used properly or not.
GoFundMe says beware of pages that ask for direct payment and report those accounts because those could be scams.
Only donate to people you personally know and trust. If there is any doubt, do not donate.
