Groups that oppose Florida’s “smart solar” amendment say a newly-disclosed recording proves what they’ve said all along: its con job by the power companies. Stephen Smith with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy says that tape reveals how the utilities created amendment 1 to kill off solar competition and then disguised it as pro-solar
The recording was made during an energy conference in Nashville where an official with Tallahassee’s James Madison Institute said the whole point of “smart solar” was to defeat a rival solar amendment and make sure the power companies maintain their monopoly.
The solar power industry hates Amendment 1 and nearly every newspaper in the state has come out against it. But the power companies are spending millions to promote their proposition and polls show it has a good chance of passing in November.
