Allapattah Flats is a state-managed conservation area in Martin County, South Florida. It’s a substantial conservation area covering 20,945 acres. It’s what’s called a passive recreation area with only a parking lot and nature trail.
The 1.5-mile long trail is a great choice for hiking and biking over old prairie and farmland. The northern perimeter of the area will allow for trails more suited to equestrians. Hunting is allowed on a seasonal basis.
Allapattah Flats camping is considered primitive camping, with tents only at a designated site. This is not a professionally maintained campground. The Allapattah Flats campsite is the perfect after-dark place to be. The area is well-known for its stargazing due to the rural conditions and lack of light pollution.
Getting to Allapattah Flats is fairly simply, just head west from Palm City and you’re just a few miles from the entrance. You will see signs for Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Area and Allapattah Flats as you approach SW Allapattach Road.

Can you hunt with dogs at Allapattah Flats?
Not usually. Hunting with dogs is strictly prohibited, except for bird dogs and retrievers. There are some exceptions. Small game season animals can be hunted with dogs and leashed dogs may be used to trail wounded game.
Are dogs allowed in Allapattah Flats?
Yes. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails.
Can you camp anywhere at Allapattah Flats?
No. Camping is only allowed at the designated campsite and you need to have a Special Use License from SFWMD.
