The ACOE wants to hear from the public regarding discharges
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to hear from you about plans for discharging water from Lake Okeechobee. The agency is considering a proposal that would give them more flexibility for dealing with harmful algae blooms. Until this year, the Army Corps was required to carry out discharges when the lake reached a certain level, which sometimes led to algae pouring into the rivers and canals. The new proposal would allow them to release water before the algae blooms appear. You can weigh in with your comments through August 21st. Comments must be sent via mail, or email, to the Jacksonville District Corps of Engineers.
