On March 30, 2016, Port St. Lucie Police arrested a 16 year old male for possession of a firearm by a minor 2nd offense and violation of probation after he shot a handgun inside his home.
On March 30, 2016 at around 9:00 pm, Port St. Lucie Police went to the 200 block of SE Sims Circle to investigate a shooting incident. Investigation revealed that a 16 year old male was sitting in his room when he discharged a .357 handgun. The bullet went through a wall causing the bullet to fragment; subsequently striking his 14 year old sister, who was in the adjoining bedroom.
The 16 year old then exited the house, broke out his bedroom window, and then hid the gun in the neighborhood. Police K-9 responded to the scene for an article search and located the gun in a grassy area across the street from the scene of the incident.
The 16 year old denied shooting the gun and told police that it was a drive-by shooting. The scenario given by the 16 year old was improbable due to the wall the bullet went through is at a 90 degree angle in relation to the window that was broken out. Crime Scene Investigators used a laser to establish the path of the bullet. The laser trajectory concluded that the 16 year old was sitting in a chair in his bedroom when the gun was discharged.
The 14 year old was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for superficial wounds to her arm and torso.
