The Exchange Club of Indian River named Dezmond Rogers of Vero Beach, senior at Indian River Charter High School, its first Student of the Quarter this year. David Walker, chair of the Club’s committee, presented the award to Dezmond, who is known as Moss, at a recent meeting at C.J. Cannon’s Restaurant, Vero Beach. His mother and the Charter High School’s head of guidance accompanied him to the presentation.

Moss was honored for his academic and musical excellence and his community service. He has been on the Honor Roll throughout high school, earned twenty credits in dual enrollment courses at Indian River State College, and completed multiple Advanced Placement courses at the Charter High School. He has been a member of National Honor Society since his sophomore year, serving as its vice president in his junior year.
A member of the Visual and Performing Arts program, Moss has been a bass player in the school’s orchestra and jazz band throughout his high school years; he also plays several other instruments. He has performed in five Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and six jazz shows. He also performed in the Florida All-State Orchestra for two years, the Mike Block String Camp, and many local orchestras and solo and ensemble works.
Moss is a co-founding member of a local community service group, Students Offering
Service (SOS) that raises money for charity and volunteers for charitable events. Other community service includes volunteering at Harvest Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Vero Beach Chamber Orchestra, among others.
His future plans include studying music in college and earning a doctoral degree in music theory. He has applied to The Curtis Institute of Music, Eastman Conservatory of Music, and The Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation is a charitable 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (Federal ID #65-1098946, Florida Registration #CH14747). It was founded in 2001 exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to aid in the prevention of child abuse. Because members believe every child in their community should have the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and strong, the Foundation funds local projects in pursuit of this goal.
Exchange Club of Indian River has provided the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism since 1973. It is affiliated with America’s service club, the National Exchange Club. Members meet for lunch Wednesdays at noon at C.J. Cannon’s at Vero Beach Regional Airport, 3414 Cherokee Drive, Vero Beach. Meetings feature programs on a wide range of business, government and civic, charity, personal, and professional topics. The club is also a partner in the Vero Beach Air Show.
