Loose dog on Memorial Island captured and brought to Humane Society
Vero Beach, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- A German Shepard type dog who swam over to Memorial Island was captured and brought to the Humane Society.
Here is the info:
On February 24th there were calls reported of a loose dog around Memorial Island. The dog, believed to be a German Shepherd, was seen running into the water and swam to the island directly southwest of Memorial Island.
Officers and VBPD Animal Control conducted numerous foot patrols around the island since the 24th, but have not been able to locate the dog. We are still receiving calls as of today stating the dog is still on the island but runs away as soon as he/she sees or hears anyone nearby. We have left dog food and water behind for the dog. A dog trap was set on the island today by VBPD animal control. Please do not disturb the dog trap if you’re on the island.

Today the Vero Beach Police Department has happy news to report. The German Shepherd that has been stranded on the island was successfully trapped by the VBPD large dog trap. At approximately 1100AM Chris, owner of Vero Tackle & Marina, was out on the water in his boat when he decided to check in on the dog trap noticing the German Shepherd had been secured in the trap. The dog has been taken to the Humane Society for observation. If unable to locate the owner of the German Shepherd, we will be looking for a foster family for this handsome dog.
