Middle schooler charged with bringing BB gun to school in Vero Beach

Indian River County,  Fl- The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday, Feb. 15, two girls at Storm Grove Middle School approached a teacher after they saw a boy pull a BB gun out of his backpack.

Resource deputies and school officials took the 12-year-old boy from his classroom, where deputies then apprehended him and charged him with possession of a firearm on school property.

The boy told deputies that he had no intention of hurting anyone at school, instead he brought the BB gun to “show off.” No injuries or threats were made to students or faculty.

The sheriff’s office said the student was detained and was sent for processing at the Indian River County Jail. He was later brought to a Fort Pierce juvenile detention center.
