4-county police chase ends with gunfire and death in Martin County
Martin County, Fl- A four-county police chase up Florida’s Turnpike on Saturday evening ended in Martin County, where the suspect shot himself and was reported to be dead.
TRAFFIC UPDATE: Traffic is backed up in both directions on the Turnpike due to a police pursuit from Miami- Dade, where suspect shot at Officers. Pursuit ended in Martin County and suspect is being treated for a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Please continue to avoid the area.

The chase backed up northbound traffic on the turnpike in Martin for much of the night.

The pursuit, which stretched over 120 miles, started when the unnamed suspect shot at police in southern Miami-Dade County, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect fled north on the turnpike with police in pursuit. The chase crossed Broward and Palm Beach counties and into Martin, where the sheriff’s office said the suspect shot himself.
The suspect was identified as Michael Sardinas, 29. He was a registered sex offender who lived in Davie.
