$2 million, 60,000-sqaure-foot manufacturing facility coming to Midway Business Park

Fort  Pierce, Fl (treasurecoast,com)- A $2 million, 60,000-sqaure-foot manufacturing facility is coming to Midway Business Park.

The City Council Monday approved an incentive package for JANSTEEL, an Israeli heavy-equipment manufacturing company, to expand its operations here.

The incentives include six years of decreasing property-tax exemptions, expediting site plans and permits and waiving certain impact fees.

“The company was attracted to the city because of its close proximity to ports as well as a strong regional transportation network, which makes it a conducive place for them (JANSTEEL) work,” said Pete Tesch, president of St. Lucie County’s Economic Development Council.

JANSTEEL was founded in 2004 and specializes in design, manufacture and marketing of transport products such as bodies for trucks, trailers, containers and lowboys trailers for transporting heavy equipment.

The manufacturing facility — until now code-named Project Ash to preserve secrecy among the city, St. Lucie County, the Economic Development Council and others — would create 55 jobs over two years, paying more than 107% of St. Lucie County’s average wage, $20.27 an hour or $42,161 annually.

The facility could be built and operational by 2023, city officials said.

Phase one of construction, which would create 25 jobs, calls for a 45,000-square-foot facility.

About 15,000-square-feet, and the remaining 30 jobs, would be added in phase two.

The St. Lucie County Commission is expected to review the economic-development incentives for JANSTEEL at a later date.
