Walton Scrub Preserve spans 33 acres between the Indian River Lagoon and basin marshes within Savannas Preserve State Park. Established in 1995, it features a mix of scrub and maritime hammock habitats. A half-mile self-guided interpretive trail provides visitors with information on native plant species. The area supports diverse wildlife, including gopher tortoises, sand skinks, and blue jays.
The preserve will be temporarily closed from January 13 through June for the construction of a 60-foot observation tower. Once completed, the tower will offer an elevated view of the surrounding landscape.
