Peacock Park sits on land that once housed the area’s first hotel, Bay View Inn, established in 1883 by Charles and Isabella Peacock. Later renamed the Peacock Inn, it became a central gathering place for the early Miami community. In 1973, the park was officially named Peacock Park in recognition of the couple’s contributions. The area also played a key role in South Florida’s early Black community, with Bahamian immigrants arriving in the late 1870s. Many worked at the inn and contributed their expertise in tropical agriculture and construction, helping develop Coconut Grove.
Today, the 9-acre park offers a range of outdoor and indoor recreational options. It features a basketball court, softball and soccer fields, a playground, and a large open multi-purpose field for activities like kickball. Indoors, the recreation building includes ping-pong and foosball tables, five computer workstations, and free Wi-Fi. A boardwalk bridge also overlooks Biscayne Bay. Furthermore, visitors can take free yoga classes or dine at Glass and Vine, a restaurant inside the park’s Glass House.
