Osprey Acres Stormwater Park and Nature Preserve spans 84 acres and enhances water treatment for the Indian River Lagoon. It extends Osprey Marsh’s system to remove excess nitrogen and phosphorus, helping meet total maximum daily load (TMDL) requirements for nutrient discharge.
In addition to water treatment, the preserve protects more than 60 acres of native upland habitat and includes 17 acres of aquatic habitat for fish and waterfowl. The area features diverse Florida ecosystems, including upland pine, mesic oak hammock, scrub, and constructed wetlands.
Initially slated for residential development, Indian River County acquired the land to preserve its ecosystems and improve stormwater treatment before discharge into the lagoon. Its proximity to Osprey Marsh makes it a valuable public education site, promoting environmental awareness among adults and school children.
