About Indrio Savannahs Preserve

Indrio Savannahs Preserve is a 297-acre conservation area located in Fort Pierce that is designed to protect the freshwater savannahs wetland system west of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge. The site includes three miles of marked trails, a 35-acre catch-and-release lake, and access points for kayaking and canoeing. It also offers an observation tower and fishing pier. These features support hiking, birding, and passive recreation throughout the year.

The preserve contains pine flatwoods, scrubby flatwoods, scrub, depression marsh, and basin swamp habitat. These ecosystems support wildlife such as alligators, osprey, herons, ibis, egrets, spoonbills, and sandhill cranes. Because it is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, the site is frequently visited by birdwatchers.

Visitors can also use several picnic tables placed throughout the area. Trails are open to hikers and bicyclists, and the canoe launch provides access to the lake for non-motorized paddling. In addition, educational signage highlights the ecological value of the wetland system and the ongoing habitat restoration efforts. Indrio Savannahs Preserve remains a significant natural resource that protects native species while offering opportunities for outdoor exploration.
