About Indian River Lagoon Greenway

The Indian River Lagoon Greenway spans 37.5 acres of conservation land and offers a scenic, year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Open from 7:30 am to sunset, this area features hiking trails, boardwalks, and an Indian River Lagoon overlook. Visitors can view the map and explore diverse ecosystems, including maritime hammocks, mangroves, and coastal wetlands.

The trail system, including a loop option, provides opportunities for hiking and biking, though some areas may be challenging for cyclists due to marshy conditions. The boardwalks lead to two viewing platforms, ideal for birdwatching or simply enjoying the serene surroundings. The area has recently undergone land management to remove invasive species like Australian pine, fostering the growth of native vegetation.

While the site offers an educational experience, rules are in place to preserve it. Dogs must remain on a leash, and activities like camping, hunting, or fishing are prohibited. Visitors are encouraged to keep the area clean and leave only footprints. The Greenway serves as part of a larger conservation effort, helping protect water quality and support local wildlife corridors. It is recommended to bring bug spray as mosquitos can be very active during warmer months.
