HSLC Chili Cook Off takes place in Hobe Sound, bringing competitive chili cooking to the Treasure Coast community. The annual event features competitions in Open, CASI, and salsa categories with trophies awarded to winners in each division.
Chili cooks compete for trophies and recognition as the best chili in Hobe Sound. CASI competitors earn points toward qualification for the CASI Terlingua World Championship. The competition attracts both serious chili enthusiasts and casual cooks looking to test their recipes.
Teams consist of a captain and up to three members. CASI category requires chili to be cooked on-site following official rules. Open category allows entries to be prepared ahead of time. Salsa competitors submit their recipes for people’s choice judging.
Contestants must provide six gallons of chili or one gallon of salsa for sampling. Visitors purchase wristbands for unlimited chili samples throughout the judging period. Teams verify wristbands before distributing samples. Sample cups, spoons, and napkins are provided by the event.
Judges will judge booths separately for decorations and theme presentation. HSELC staff evaluates the displays with prizes awarded for creativity. The additional competition encourages teams to develop elaborate setups beyond their cooking.
Live music performs throughout the event. Activities for children provide entertainment while adults sample chili entries. Food vendors offer additional dining options.
