Day of Caring

Day of Caring is United Way of Indian River County’s signature volunteer event, bringing together hundreds of neighbors who are ready to roll up their sleeves and put in a morning of hands-on work for local nonprofits. Whether you sign up as an individual, bring the family, gather a group of friends or organize a team from your workplace, there is a project waiting that fits your skills.

The day kicks off at the Vero Beach High School Citrus Bowl, where volunteers gather for check-in, a welcome and a complimentary breakfast before heading out to host sites scattered across the county. Projects range from painting and landscaping to light construction, organizing donation rooms, assembling supplies and sprucing up the grounds of agencies that serve local families every day. Many of these organizations operate on tight budgets and simply do not have the staff to tackle big maintenance jobs, so a few focused hours from a crew of volunteers can make a year’s worth of difference.

Nonprofits with a project in mind can register ahead of the event, and volunteer sign-ups open later in the summer. It is one of the most rewarding ways to connect with the people who keep Indian River County running, and a great entry point if you are new to Vero Beach and looking to meet neighbors while doing something genuinely useful.
