Battle of Okeechobee

The Battle of Okeechobee is a family-friendly historical event presented by the Okeechobee Battlefield Friends that commemorates a key battle of the Second Seminole War fought on Christmas Day in 1837. The event focuses on education, preservation, and public engagement through live historical interpretation and reenactment.

Attendees can experience a narrated battlefield reenactment, a historic colors presentation, and live demonstrations that include artillery and regional wildlife interpretation. The event also features living history encampments, period artisans, educational exhibits, and music. Food vendors are on site, including traditional Seminole food, along with activities designed for children and families. The program is structured to provide historical context while remaining accessible to a broad audience.

The event takes place at Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park, located at 3500 SE 38th Avenue in Okeechobee. Gates are open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both February 28 and March 1, with the reenactment beginning at 2:00 p.m. each day. Admission is $10 per vehicle.
