Stolen Car Leads to Arrests

At approximately 11:55 a.m. yesterday, Sheriff’s deputies received a Lojack hit on a stolen vehicle in the area of Weatherbee Road and U.S. 1, said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. When deputies attempted to stop the black Chevy Malibu, it fled south on U.S. 1, turned west on Midway Road and then south on Selvitz Road, Mascara said. Onstar was able to disable the vehicle causing it to stop in the 6500 block of Chugwater Circle in Port St. Lucie.

Sheriff Mascara said the vehicle was confirmed to be a stolen Avis rental vehicle that was occupied by five people. Also in the car was jewelry believed to be stolen and narcotics, Mascara said.

According to Sheriff Mascara, the vehicle was rented out of Hallandale, Florida where two of the five occupants lived. One occupant is a resident of Fort Pierce and two are of Port St. Lucie.

This investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, Mascara said.

Sheriff’s Mascara asks the public to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 772-462-3230 if they have any information about jewelry that may have recently been stolen from their home.
