Manatee
Federal wildlife officials say they want to down-list the manatee to threatened species. The idea won’t be official till after a period of public comment, but officials with Save the manatee Club say they don’t have much faith in the wildlife service these days.
Dr. Katie Tripp is head of science and conservation for Save the Manatee. She says the numbers are indeed up. But most manatees depend on artificial sources of warm water for wintering, and those sources will be going away. When that happens, it will be bad news for the manatees.
